" You should be able to see the artisan’s touch in each carving. You can’t get that in a factory. "
Bulacan may border Metro Manila, but its slower pace and open spaces feel like a world apart from the frenetic capital. Here, Fortunato is a third-generation woodworker carrying on a legacy started in the 70s. While many of his colleagues in the Philippines have moved to mechanized mass production, Fortunato’s team still uses traditional techniques and hand tools to create their work. Each of their wooden pieces is masterfully crafted, but no two pieces are exactly identical. We agree with Fortunato that this is what makes his pieces superior and why the craft is worth preserving.
