African Batik Safari Animal Christmas Ornaments – Set of 4
Handcrafted in Zimbabwe, this set of four animal ornaments brings the character of traditional textile craft to the Christmas tree. The collection includes an elephant, lion, rhino and giraffe, each cut and stitched from richly textured handwoven cotton.
The fabric is decorated by hand using a traditional Sadza resist technique, similar to batik. A maize-based resist is applied to create the pattern, then dried and carefully removed to reveal the fabric beneath. The process leaves behind the fine lines, subtle crackling and natural variations that give the textile its distinctive character.
Soft, tactile and wonderfully understated, the animals are equally at home on a Christmas tree, in a nursery or children's room, or gathered on a child's first Christmas tree. Their natural fabric texture and gentle, earthy palette make them an easy addition to spaces designed with a thoughtful, collected aesthetic.
Each ornament carries the quiet irregularities of the handmade process. Variations in the weave, pattern and shape are part of their character, giving every piece a sense of individuality that cannot be replicated by machine.
Made for celebrating the season, and beautiful enough to keep long after it has passed.
